OFSTED framework (SCCIF)

Our first principle of inspection is to focus on the things that matter most to children’s lives. The SCCIF is not a ‘one-size-fits-all’ framework. The evaluation criteria are broadly consistent across the different types of children’s social care services but they reflect the unique nature of each type of service.

This framework sets out Ofsted’s process for inspecting children’s homes.

Our approach is underpinned by the following 3 principles that apply to all social care inspections:

  • to focus on the things that matter most to children’s lives

  • to be consistent in our expectations of providers

  • to prioritise our work where improvement is needed most

4

Inspection guidance (Mocksted)

As well as our REG 44 visits, we also offer mock Ofsted inspections. These inspections will give your home and your care team the opportunity to experience what it is like to have a full Ofsted inspection. The experience is designed to help your care team to understand the process and to help them to feel more confident in the lead-up to your Ofsted inspection.

The report following your mock inspection is intended to help your home to be ‘Ofsted ready’ and can highlight any areas of concern to allow you time to rectify any issues. The process can help to reduce the risk of receiving ‘Requires improvement’ or ‘inadequate’ outcomes from your Ofsted inspection when the time arises. A mock Ofsted inspection provides evidence of self-reflective practice and commitment to quality improvement.
